Day 1: Welcome to Russia

Arrival to Moscow. You will be met, greeted, and escorted to your hotel.

Day 2 : Architectural Dream Tour of Moscow

Today, you will penetrate the Kremlin walls. See the inside of one of the most secret building complexes on Earth.  Visit the three cathedrals inside. Experience the beauty of the Assumption, the Annunciation, and Michael the Archangel Cathedrals.

Tour Red Square and admire the colorful domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral, plus landmarks like the Savior Tower, GUM department store, the State Historical Museum, and Lenin’s mausoleum.

After lunch explore the Arbat area. Visit the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture. The museum’s collections reflect the ancient history of architecture in Russia. Top it off with the view of the experimental cylindrical house of Melnikov.

Day 3: Soviet Avant Garde

This morning take a Metro ride with your guide and stop to explore the grandeur of its most impressive stations. Then visit the unique historical and architectural complex VDNH. It was the place where the best Soviet architects, sculptors, and artists experimented with the new Soviet style.

After lunch tour the city to see the examples of Soviet architecture – Tsentrosoyuz building (Corbusier House), Gostorg building, Narkomsem, and NKPS buildings.

Day 4: Stalin’s Skyscrapers and Art Nouveau

Today you observe the Stalin’s High-Rises, so-called Seven Sisters. They were built officially from 1947 to 1953 in a combination of Russian Baroque and Gothic styles, with the technology used in building American skyscrapers. Of special note is the Moscow University building. Next, see the House on the Embankment and learn about its dark and tragic past. View the Pioneer’s Palace and Burov’s house.

Later have lunch at Leningradskaya hotel – one of the Seven Sisters. The staircase of the hotel features the longest chandelier in the world and was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.

After lunch, visit the Gorky House (Ryabushinsky Mansion) – a stunning example of Art Nouveau architecture, highlighted by a twisted marble staircase.

Day 5: The Grandeur of St. Petersburg

This morning board the high-speed train Sapsan to St. Petersburg.

Upon arrival tour the magic northern capital of Russia. The city tour will feature the Neva River and the splendid view of the city from the Spit of Vasilievsky Island. Follow your guide to the oldest part of the city – Peter and Paul Fortress where the town of Peter started in 1703.

After the tour check in the hotel.

Day 6: Winter Palace and Cathedrals

Today, first of all, view the Palace square and take in the spectacular panorama of the General Staff building, Alexander column, and the Hermitage. Have the tour of the Winter Palace Gala rooms.

After lunch, experience the beauty and majesty of St. Isaac’s Cathedral. Then visit the most famous church in the city the Church of Our Savior on the Spilled Blood and view the Grand Choral Synagogue.

Day 7: Catherine’s Palace and Peterhof Fountains

It’s time to travel out of town and check Tsarskoye Selo, just outside St. Petersburg. See the awe-inspiring Catherine’s Palace, where Empress Catherine the Great lived and died. Its main attractions are the mirrored Grand Ballroom and the opulent Amber Room. 

Then after lunch take a promenade around Peterhof Park – the “capital of fountains” – with the most famous Grand Cascade. There are 64 different fountains and numerous bronze statues, bas-reliefs, and other decorations. The architecture and decor of Peterhof are the epitome of the artistic styles of the past, as well as the personal tastes of every Russian monarch.

Day 9: Return Home
